Marvel Studios’ Echo: The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) provided us with a special surprise during the 2021 holiday season with the Christmas-themed Hawkeye series. Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) hooks up with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) to get home in time for Christmas when his past as a Ronin comes back to haunt him. Hawkeye reintroduced several fan favourites, including Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova.

However, it was Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez, one of the MCU’s new characters, who stole the show (a.k.a. Echo). Lopez made her live-action debut as the deaf boss of the Tracksuit Mafia in Hawkeye. She attempts to track down Hawkeye, who murdered her father during his time as a Ronin in the series. Her fighting abilities are flawless, as she can exactly replicate, or echo, the movements of her opponents. She tracks down and shoots her adoptive uncle, Kingpin, after learning the truth about how he planned her father’s assassination by tipping off Ronin.

In November of 2021, it was revealed that an Echo spin-off series was in the works, with Cox reprising his role as Lopez. Echo is a legendary hero, so the series was welcomed with great anticipation. She is one of the few Indigenous and deaf heroes in both the comics and the MCU. Cox is also a representation of the amputee community because he wears a prosthetic leg. The echo will undoubtedly be a unique performance.

Echo’s cast and characters have been confirmed

Of course, Cox’s return as Echo has already been confirmed. In Hawkeye, the actress made her acting debut. After that, she was promptly chosen to host her show, Echo, following her first acting role. We can’t wait to see what she does with her show after wowing us with her debut acting job as a supporting character in Hawkeye.

Marvel confirmed Zahn McClarnon will return while providing casting updates for Echo. Maya Lopez’s father, William Lopez, was played by McClarnon in Hawkeye. He reappears in a flashback when it is revealed that the Tracksuit Mafia was on Ronin’s radar while he hunted down organised crime. As a result, Lopez was assassinated by Ronin, and Maya was present when he died, vowing to avenge him. Maya had a close relationship with her father, and he appears to be appearing in more of her memories and flashbacks as she examines her own and her father’s identities.
