The Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies has been cancelled by The CW after four seasons, bringing the paranormal YA franchise’s thirteen-year run on television to an end. In October of 2015, the series premiered on the network. Following The Originals, which premiered in October 2013 and ran until August 2018, Legacies was the franchise’s second spin-off series.
Legacies continued the narrative of Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), the daughter of vampire/werewolf hybrid Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) and werewolf Hayley Marshall, who was introduced at the finale of The Originals (Phoebe Tonkin). Hope has struggled between learning to hone her vampire, werewolf, and witch lineage while also coping with numerous challenges and opponents while attending the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted in Mystic Falls, Virginia in order to learn to control her supernatural gifts and impulses. A number of Vampire Diaries characters, notably Alaric Saltzman (Mattew Davis) and Jeremy Gilbert, have returned in Legacies (Steven R. McQueen).
The CW has lately announced a flurry of cancellations, with The Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies being the most recent.
We go down why Legacies was cancelled by the network before Season 5, when the series finale will air, and who will be part of the final season cast.
Legacies Season 4 was previously confirmed by The CW immediately after the third season premiered in January, despite repeated pandemic-related delays.
