Robert Downey Jr. last played famous detective Sherlock Holmes previously in the 2011 film Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Now fans have never given up their hope that there would become a third movie in the franchise.

Sherlock Holmes 3 at one level had a release date of December 22, 2021.

However, the movie broke down to arrive on that date, with COVID stopping it from going into production.

Recently, the third Sherlock Holmes movie is coming back in the news thanks to a rumour that Robert Downey wants Johnny Depp to star in it.

It is based on an old story, and the following developments appear to have made it even less probable to be true soon.

The declaration came from all the reasons why it may not be real.

Numerous publications have announced the rumour, but not everyone has mentioned where it came from.

Or they only mentioned it from another publication that did not recite the original source.

Initially, the actor Johnny Depp rumour comes from a National Enquirer story in August 2020. The story is attributed to an unnamed source, who states

“Johnny and Robert have a very special 30-year relationship that dates back to both of their days as eccentric Hollywood hell-raisers…Robert thinks Johnny deserves the same chance to redeem himself that he had.”

According to the report some quotes come from an unnamed source, it is very hard for any outside publication to confirm it as the Enquirer is not always the most authentic of sources. A 2017 New Yorker piece about the magazine stated:

“The Enquirer’s covers invariably include statements about celebrities that are deeply misleading, if libel-law-compliant, as well as claims about politicians that are outright lies.”

There is no proof that the Enquirer’s quote is wrong. But it still remains improbable that soon we will see Johnny Depp in the Sherlock Holmes 3 sequel at any time.

In a nutshell, Johnny Depp does not star in a film that does not exist, and its studio has no plans to make it at this time.

As a point of fact, even if Warner Bros. were to direct Sherlock Holmes 3, it appears unexpected that Johnny Depp would be playing a role.

Warners Bros ultimately removed Johnny Depp from the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

And if they found Depp too difficult a statistic to star in that movie series, his role in another of their franchises but something serious was to transform.
