Lionel Richie has a long history in the music industry; he was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, in 1949, and received a B.S. in economics after studying music since he was a child.

His musical ability led him to form various rhythm and blues ensembles.

After forming bands, he joined the famed Commodores in 1968, taking over as lead singer, pianist, and saxophonist.

Brick House made them famous.

Songwriting for other musicians:

Richie began creating songs for other musicians, as happens when a band has outstanding players; he composed “Lady” for Kenny Rogers, which became a number one hit in the early 1980s. Following that triumph, he wrote the song “Endless Love” for the film’s soundtrack, a song that earned him an academy award nomination in collaboration with Diana Ross.

He was able to leave the group and start a solo career after establishing himself as an independent musician.

His debut record sold over four million copies, and he was a musical sensation throughout the 1980s.

Award-winning film:

He penned and sang “Say You, Say Me” for the “White Nights” soundtrack in 1985, earning him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.

Lionel Richie has received four Grammy Awards: Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

Richie joined the judges of “American Idol” in 2019, earning $10 million in his first season as a judge on the famous show.
